Dear Family and Friends,
This week we are centered at Mwangaza, wrapping up reports from last week's seminar and prepping for next week's seminar here at Mwangaza. Will send a number of short journals from last week's safari/seminar while also trying to keep up with happenings of this week.
Had a smooth journey Sunday from Arusha to Dar es Salaam, but as always, some interesting sights/happenings in route -- at least from the perspective of midwestern USA folks. Will take you along on our trip twice, first from the perspective of road and geography. Very thankful that Allen is a wonderfully talented driver.
The pix are a bit blurry as everything was shot while we were moving.
Mount Meru, a newer hotel on the edge of Arusha -- lots of glass and good view of Meru:
The only main road from Arusha to Dar es Salaam -- 2 lanes, and NOT a wide 2-lane road. Recognize anyone on the billboards at the bus stop? May have to enlarge to see a Prez & Pope:
Southeast of Moshi and Mt. Kilimanjaro, we are approaching the Pare Mountains, so turning south to run alongside them. Note the interestingly packed lorry on the left:
Picking up as turned south along the Pare Mountain range:
Laundry day for the community:
Sun peaking through the clouds made for some dramatic views:
But then the temperature and humidity rose and traffic became congested -- and ground to a halt for a bit of that Chicago experience. The road has turned from 2 to 4 lanes, but we are at a standstill just short of a very busy entrance/exit from a market area -- with no traffic lights:
A little patience from us passengers and our great driver had us at our comfortable lodging before dark, some 11 hours after leaving Mwangaza:
Will return soon and take you again on the road to Kisarawe, but next time through the perspectives of agriculture.
Peace and love,
Mike and Sharon
